Teacher from Coney Island

Met a girl named Emily. Ate
a taco from a truck. After school
my armpits stink. I told her have
a good last Friday. The words
do not make sense. Teacha why
are you so dumb you don't
know nothin. Teacha, you respect
me. Met the founder of my grad
school. He said, "Hey, you teach
at Coney Island."A coney is a rabbit.
An island is a piece of land that's lost.
My train is paused in darkness
without explanation. My stomach
sends signals of hunger. I know better.
The body cannot be trusted. Neither can the G.
This is what I'd say if I were in charge
of a train stopped in darkness and
outside the whole world was ending:
We will be moving shortly.
But then we were. In preschool I won
the speed-walking contest. I've
always been waiting for the apocalypse.
I'm always going somewhere quickly.
Or nowhere at all. Emily said,
teacha, you funn. In 7th grade
I joined the swim team. I lost
a lot of races. I've spent a lot
of time in school. In fact I've
never left. My student said,
how long have you been teaching
here? I said to her, forever.
